Jean loves being a full-time acupuncturist.

Jean Donati is licensed with the Maryland State Board of Acupuncture and graduated from the Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Columbia Maryland (now the Maryland University of Intergrative Health) in 2000, where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. While Jean loves being a full-time Acupuncurist, she maintains her NCCPA (National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants) certification as a Physician Assistant, giving her a unique understanding of both Eastern and Western medicine and the way they intersect.

Jean encountered Acupuncture out of desperation to ease her own chronic lower back pain. With regular visits Jean became pain-free. Acupuncture changed other aspects of her life as well--she was happier and less stressed. Her friends and family noticed how much more relaxed and easy going she had become. To this day, she continues to use acupuncture to maintain her own health and well-being. Click her photo to hear her describe her healing journey.

As a patient, Jean learned that the main tenet of acupuncture is treating the whole person--body, mind, and spirit--not just symptoms. Her sessions left her feeling cared-for and tended-to. Jean realized that this holistic, whole-person, approach what was missing in Western medical practice. She wants her patients to experience the gentle care that she received during her acupuncture treatments, so when you come to see Jean, expect a calm, comfortable, and healing atmosphere, attentive listening, and a gentle and effective approach to providing therapy and care. You will receive her undivided attention during your sessions. With Jean, there is no double-booking, or leaving the room to attend to other patients. Your care is Jean's priority.

A patient may have specific complaints, be it musculoskeletal pain; a sports injury; stress, anxiety, or depression; neurological conditions; or womens’ health issues. But the actual imbalance causing these issues may be somewhere else. Acupuncture identifies the root cause of your symptom or illness and then addresses that imbalance in a way that works naturally with your body, restoring optimum health so the body’s natural healing mechanisms can take over.

Among the many conditions Jean has successfully treated are lower back pain and sciatica; carpal tunnel syndrome; irritable bowel syndrome; insomnia; neck pain; depression; rotator cuff injuries; post traumatic stress disorder; stress; anxiety; vertigo; dysmenorrhea; achilles tendonitis; migraine headaches; she has also assisted couples with fertility concerns. One of Jean's special interests is in care for Caregivers (family caregivers, physicians, nurses, counselors, Fire/EMS, police) as she understands the need to be tended-to and healthy in order to be able to give quality care to others.

Jean’s vision is to share her knowledge of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and her passion for natural health and healing, tending to the individual to provide the highest quality of patient care. She sincerely looks forward to meeting you and working together with you to reach your optimum health.

Why the Lotus Flower Image? What does the Lotus Flower have to do with Acupuncture?

The lotus symbolizes new beginnings. It is regarded in many different cultures as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. Untouched by the impurity around it, the lotus symbolizes purity of the heart and mind. It rises above despite its challenges.

Growing out of murky waters, the lotus flower’s roots anchor it in the mud but the flower rises above its environment each morning--opening, one petal at a time--to bloom in beauty facing the sun. It remains grounded. Proud of what it is and yet still apart from its environment. It beautifies the environment and makes it better simply by just being there.

Just like the lotus flower, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world!
